All Reviews for Kidco Adhesive Mount Magnet Lock

By Craig D.  –  April 12, 2010

These are a great way to keep kids out of the cabinets you don't want them in. I love that they can't get into the electronics without the key. Be sure to always know where your key is or have a spare.

Perfect
By K. Dempsey  –  April 12, 2010

I just think this is ingenious. It is so much easier to use this as opposed to a lock with a key. However, if you do not know that the cabinet is locked using one of these and try to forcefully open the cabinet - it is fairly to just rip the whole thing off. So a determined little toddler could probably eventually just pull on the cabinet till it gives.

We rent and these were great for our apartment and the kids couldn't figure them out. Just make sure you always remember where the key is!

We used this lock on our entertainment center and it worked great. Easy to install and easy to use. Just make sure you don't lose the key or you are locked out and have to go by a replacement.

By D. McDermond  –  April 12, 2010

How great would these be if you rent and can not screw things in? They work pretty well actually. We only have a couple because they are too expensive to use throughout the house. But they work great.

By P. Riggs  –  April 11, 2010

I don't like these locks even though I really wanted them to work. The magnet is strong and it does open the lock, but so does a nice, hard tug by me. I also had a hard time lining up the the parts on the lock inside the door.

Great for renters
By V. Montes  –  April 11, 2010

We rent our home and didn't want to risk doing any damage to the cabinets by screwing anything into them. These work very well for keeping little ones from getting into cleaning supplies or trying to pull out all of the pots and pans.

No good for us
By S. Brideau  –  April 11, 2010

Hasn`t work too good for us. We tried these on and they don`t seem to stay put. Not sure if its because our cabinets door are too thick or we are putting it wrong. Will be returning for an exchange and getting another type. Would not recommend unless you know they fit on your doors.

By M G M.  –  April 11, 2010

These are great in idea and when they fit the cabinet are probably the best child lock, as long as you don’t forget the key for them to use. Buy one before you get enough for all your cabinets as they will not work on lots of cabinets.

We love these for "function" and installation was a tad tricky but I like not having a bunch of stuff on the outside of the door...but I ALWAYS lose the key...ALWAYS I need something like the key on a big spatula or somthing so it would never leave the kitchen.

By B. Funaro  –  April 11, 2010

The pros..They are easy to install thanks to the adhesive and screws(I did this one on my own without my hubby) :). There is also a disengage switch which truly does come in handy.. also really any strong kitchen magnet will work with this if need be. The Cons.. it doesn't fit every type of cabinet. They are also pretty pricey, so I would suggest buying one set at a time and making sure they work for you first.

By Becky A.  –  April 11, 2010

This is a great lock to keep your little one safe! I was so excited to see one that was easy for parents to get into and did not require mounting the hardware! These worked great on our entertainment center as our little guy kept trying to pull up on the doors and then they would go flying open on him!

for cabinets, not drawers
By P. Masi  –  April 11, 2010

We have these on our cabinets and have been very happy with them - they're easy to install & my daughter can't open them (she broke through pretty much every external lock system). We bought an extra set to use on our kitchen drawers and they don't work at all - the overhang of the countertop & the thickness of the drawers made it impossible to install correctly. So, definitely recommend for cabinets, not recommended for drawers.

Didnt last
By N. Grant  –  April 11, 2010

It worked for a few days. Once the kids started pulling and tugging on it to many times the adhesive came undone so if you have persistent kids they probably wont last long.

Magnet locks are best!
By Joy B.  –  April 11, 2010

The push down plastic locks can be broken! So be careful where you use them. I use both, but use the non-locking ones where I don't want my baby and toddle to get to, but I use the magnet lock where it is dangerous. I first fostered my boy before adopting, and if you have an expection you are required to have a magnet or key lock anywhere there are dangerous items. They magnet key is better I think because the magnet key is on our fridge for the kitchen sink cabinet, and it is on the mirror in the bathroom for that cabinet. Easier to keep track of than real keys.rnA MUST to keep your kids safe! And do it right the first time, don't get push down locks for when they are babies and then want to switch when you think it's time, because they'll surprise you when that time comes. :) My cousins' boy broke 3 of her push down locks at age 2yrs!

These were in our apartment when we moved in.
By A. Trihey  –  April 11, 2010

We found the key in a drawer and figured out what it was on our own, never having seen these before for sale. We thought it was really cool just like the remote control ceiling fans that came with our apartment. Well within 2 weeks the remote for the fan was in the junk drawer and these were ripped out of our cabinets. Using a remote or a key for something seemed like a cool idea at first but keeping up with them was a hassle. I dont need one more thing on my list of things to keep track of. Only if you are super organized and anal about putting it back in the same place every single time will these work for a busy mom. But they didnt work for me. LOL

Perfect for renters
By A. Natarajan  –  April 11, 2010

Since we rent our townhome we did not want to install any screws to our kitchen and bathroom cabinets. This product has a very strong adhesive, is easy to install and is fool proof.

Total waste of money
By J. Graham  –  April 11, 2010

I don't know if it was me or my cabinets or what, but this didn't remotely work for us. I installed it with the adhesive and that didn't work so I tried with screws and THAT didn't work. I went back to the old fashioned kind.

Must Have
By C. Gabriel  –  April 11, 2010

These locks are AWESOME! They are my absolute favorite!!! My son can open pretty much anything I use. This one has him stumped because he can't reach the key.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product. It may be a bit pricier than others but it is worth it. If you try one thing and it doesn't work than you are wasting money. You might has well have bought the expensive locks.
We have had the locks for 7 months.

Not the best
By T. Slayton  –  April 11, 2010

I got rid of these. These were not very durable and my child figured out how to get around them. Believe it or not rubberbands work better and are cheaper.

By Suzanne B.  –  April 11, 2010

These are a lot pricier than the other basic cabinet locks we started with. We like them a lot better though! My husband was able to install them in a few minutes, and they really work. We are trying to add them to all our bottom kitchen cabinets.

Great product...
By R. Bryant  –  April 11, 2010

but we lost the key....lol. They work well, kids can't get around them like they can the traditional locks (as long as you keep the key out of reach) but the drawback is that if you misplace the key you are locked out of your cabinets.

By E M.  –  April 11, 2010

This is only for the locks. The keys are in another area. These are very easy to install, make sure you read the directions for exact spacing. The adhesive works well, and doesnt come off easily like some do. The magnets mean the children cannot figure them out which is great for any chemical cabinets.

These were the first cabinet locks that we tried, and they worked wonderfully... However over time I found the need to go get the key to be a pain, and we switched to different locks that work just as well without the added step of finding a key.

best locks we have
By E. Tucker  –  April 09, 2010

I much prefer these to the lever kind of lock that goes inside the cabinet - my daughter can still get her fingers inside and pull things out. With these, the door doesn't open at all and she quickly left the doors alone all together because they didn't open at all.

Works great...if you don't lose the key
By Katie S.  –  April 09, 2010

These work great...when I can find the key. I don't know what happens, but I can never seem to keep track of it. We eventually removed them and put in locks that you didn't have to worry about two separate pieces.

This is an awesome system, but is made for an ultra organized family. We have keys all over the place because we have a hard time remembering to put it away. It does keep my 3.5yr old out of the cabinets though.

Kidco Magnetic Saftey Locks
By M. Gehman  –  April 09, 2010

I bought 2 sets of these locks.Although a little pricey on the websites that I bought them from, they seem to have the best chance of still being "childproof" the longest. I did not find the tape strong enough to hold the locks on the doors and did have to drill holes but they are still fairly easy to install and nice looking. The only problem I had was that once I dropped the key inside the cabinet as the door shut and I had to use a hanger to slide inside the cabinet and push the lever so that the lock opened. It ended up weakening it and it later broke but against these kind of human errors, these locks are strong and hold up against my one year old yanking on them. I bought the first set for my kitchen. I later decided that I needed another set for the bathrooms and bought a set of the push down white levers for cheap but they were a lot harder to install an dnot as secure so I gave them away and bought a second set of these locks. It definitely made us feel safer with a toddler walking around and into everything.

Ok
By P. Riley  –  April 08, 2010

The Best Locks
By Christine T.  –  April 07, 2010

These are the best locks on the market. We used them with the adhesive and they worked great. It makes your cabinets easy to get into, even one handed. My kid used to hang on the cabinets and bang as hard as he could against the locks and they never broke and the adhesive never slipped. However, they don't work with all cabinets, so beware. (It has to do with frame or frameless cabinets and the clearance for drawers, etc.)

By C. Lawler  –  April 07, 2010

This system is so much better than the traditional plastic cabinet locks that break all the time. Once we learned to always keep the key in the same spot on the fridge we didn't have any problems. It's really a pain if you can't find the key and you need in a cabinet though.

This is so much better than the push down from the inside locks. I like these better because you don't have to be perfect on the placement to make it work properly. I will add remember where you put the magnet at on the inside so you are not searching for the right spot!

Very awesome locks!
By K. Wilder  –  April 07, 2010

My church has these installed on all the cupboards in the nursery and they are absolutely fantastic. You just have to be strict about where you keep the key. Other then that they are super easy and fast. You don't have to worry about any little plastic parts breaking!

Great
By J. sedlacko  –  April 07, 2010

These are so nice and strong. Perfect for cupboards that you don't want to have little fingers open even a little bit. The magnet on these is east to use (unlike the totlock brand). I wouldn't put them on things you open all the time, like the silverware drawer, but they are perfect for the cabinet under the sink that we keep the plunger and other stuff that I would not like my kids to play with. They were pretty easy to install, just don't loose the key.rn

Great Locks
By Charissa W.  –  April 07, 2010

We purchased these because we have a rental and I didn't want to have to drill holes in all of my landlords cupboard. I'm really impressed with them! The adhesive is still holding strong after over a year. The only place we had to screw in some of them was in the top bracket (no biggie though because it cant be seen). Overall I would definitely suggest these locks!

We had 1 cabinet that we couldn't use the other types of latches that go on the handles for. I really didn't want to drill into the cabinet, so I bought these. They work great, just don't lose the key! (my husband did!)

These work great until you lose the key! Unfortunately my husband is one of the most disorganized people on the planet, so everything he touches vanishes. It drove me crazy because every time he had been in the cabinets, I could never find the key. I had to get different locks because of this. But if you're organized enough to use these, they work great!

By A. Patel  –  April 06, 2010

After trying the Tot Loc brand, and putting a large hole through our cupboard door, the magnet wasn't strong enough to open the door. We tried the Kidco brand and were very happy. Easy to install, the whole kitchen took just minutes. The adhesive has held up, we haven't had any problems with it, but we saved the screws just in case. A tad bit expensive but worth the extra money.

By P. Paolino  –  April 05, 2010

Good, but expensive
By Tim W.  –  April 02, 2010

In order to save my cabinets from holes, I bought these for much more money. Other than the expense, I like them. They didn't take long to install and have held up for the last year. The adhesive and magnet don't fit/won't work for all cabinets though. For instance, if your cabinet is too thick, the magnet key won't be strong enough to release the locking mechanism. So test the magnet and key before you stick the adhesive on. There are a few doors in my kitchen we can't lock because of the limitations. Also, you have to wait 24 hours before you use the locking mechanism (has on/off switch)so that you can insure a good, lasting stick.

The only one that works!
By Sharon F.  –  April 02, 2010

These are awesome and the only lock that truly keeps kids out of cabinets & media centers. After purchasing the old style that you had to drill holes for (and after much trial & error with other locks) in our old house I was VERY pleased that now no holes are required. I highly recommend (just make sure you don't store the magnet "key" by your digital media)

Just OK
By S. Murray-Schwartzman  –  April 02, 2010

By S. Lumb  –  April 02, 2010

I HATE these! They work well, but if your kid gets the key and loses it then you are stuck. It makes cooking a challenge for me because I want to be able to get in and out quickly to grab what I want fast but I can't because I have to go search for the key, unlock and relock. I am not a fan. They may work well in a not so high traffic area and make sure you do not misplace the key!

These child safety locks are so much easier than the ones you have to use screws to put in. They adhere to almost anything! We have a high gloss on our cabinets so I was worried it wouldn't stick but they did. And, not only did they stick but they did very well. They have been there for now five months! And this is with our son tugging at the cabinets all the time. I don't have to worry about pushing this or that to open my own cabinet too.

Not for the absentminded
By A. Goebbert  –  April 02, 2010

We had these installed on our previous home a few years ago and were attracted to the notion of not being able to see anything mounted to the outside of our lovely cabinetry. However, it was NOT very convenient to have to locate and use the key every time we wanted to open a cabinet! Oftentimes I had no idea where I left it! I would recommend buying the extra key and key keeper set sold here, too. I wasn't aware of that or I would have bought it back then!

Worth the price
By S. Clark  –  April 02, 2010

We just had new cabinets put in and the idea of drilling into them didn't appeal to me. rnThese ones work really well and I know that as he gets older and watches us he won't be able to figure out how to unhook it and get in anyhow.rnJust remember to get two keys, just in case one goes missing.

By R. Scalise  –  April 01, 2010

These are great! We used them for my daughter because she kept breaking in the plastic locks and this was unbreakable! I also used it for CHristmas gifts. Only downfall is if you lose your main magnet, then you have to find one that is as high powered as this magnet, and may be locked out of your cabinet for awhile. I recommend getting two master "keys".

This is great until you A lose the key or B your kid finds the key. If you were able to put it on a key ring it would be better. Also after opening it a few times the adhesive got unsticky so didnt work out well.

LOVE
By A. Russo  –  April 01, 2010

We own both the starter set, plus a set of extra locks. We also have an extra lock (on a different page). We love these things. We didn't even need to drill, the adhesive was strong enough for us. Our daughter can't get into the kitchen cabinets, and she can't even open them a smidge like with some other locks. These are easy to install and have been going strong for several months now. We keep the keys stored on the side of our fridge, since they are magnetic.

I like the idea, but it does set hard enough and comes off with a vigorous yank. The magnet is very strong and it does keep the children out of the cupboards if you can keep daddy from breaking it off.

Love these locks!
By C. McCune  –  March 31, 2010

These are my favorite way of babyproofing a cabinet. There is no way to get the door open without the "key" which can easily be placed out of reach. However, with the magnetic key, it is very easy to open.

These are the SMARTEST kid locks! My son was able to figure out all the other ones I bought for our cabinets, except for these. I recommend these to people before they go out and buy the cheaper ones. We would have saved so much money if we bought these from the start.

recommend to all my friends
By L. Buffa  –  March 31, 2010

We started out baby proofing with the regular cabinet locks. It was a definite waste of time and money. Half the time, I can't pull them open and my daughter yanks and yanks and gets them open. For the safety of my family, we bought these locks(which weren't too expensive) and they work great. The magnet is very strong! Just make sure you put the magnet key in one place so you can find them quickly.

Love these!
By K. Cimorosi  –  March 31, 2010

We love these safety locks. They are very simple to use and the kids aren't able to get into the cabinets at all. My husband loves that our kitchen is babyproofed but doesn't look like it is! We just keep the key in a little basket on top of the fridge so it doesn't get lost. At first I thought it was a pain in the butt to have to unlock/lock them everytime I needed in and out of the cabinet. Now when I know i'll be getting a lot out of the cabinets like at mealtimes I unlock them all at once and get to work. I will be right in the kitchen so I can watch the kids. Then I lock them all back when I'm done. The only downside is they are pricey. Totally worth it in my opinion!

so easy to use!
By K. Liles  –  March 31, 2010

The first time I used this lock, I was amazed. It is such a great invention because it is hidden away and does not "look" like safety proofing. It has always been easy for me to get it unlocked.

These locks are great if you live in a rental and can't screw holes into the cabinets. They are pricey, especially if you have many cabinets/drawers to lock. We only use them on a couple of cabinets, so the starter kits was enough for us.

Worth the money
By C. Culp  –  March 31, 2010

Yes, these are pricey. But we had new cabinets put in shortly before we got pregnant, and the idea of screwing latches into all that beautiful wood drove me crazy. We researched our options and found these magnets latches. They work as well as the traditional kind, without holes. Yea!

Fantastic but only fit certain styles of cabinet
By J. Lauchlan  –  March 31, 2010

We love these. They are outstanding, and so easy to mount. My very determined son can't defeat them, either. Unfortunately, they only fit about 1/3 of the cabinets and drawers in our kitchen. If the cabinet or drawer doesn't have a solid panel immediately above it, you can't use these locks. We were very disappointed to learn this and were stuck with the hassle of screw mounted locks for the rest of the cabinets and drawers. Also, just this week, the catch for the lock on the knife drawer (!) fell off after only 6 months of use. I still love the ones that are attached, though, and wish we had them on all the cabinets and drawers.

Essential!!!
By J. MURPHY  –  March 31, 2010

We put these in our kitchen on all of the cabinet doors. They are fabulous and so easy to use....just line up the magnets and the door opens. So much easier than trying to get off other baby locks. And we of course keep the magnet high, so the kids can't reach it.

The best lock out there
By L. srinivasan  –  March 31, 2010

I always hated the mounted locks and jumped for joy when I saw this one. It mounts without hardware(but recommended for extra strength). There are no gaps when the cabinet is locked. Very easy to open with hands occupied. But this works on most cabinets but not on most drawers. So buy a trial set before buying a whole lot. And it can be opened with any magnet not just the magnetic opener it comes with.

By M. Lutz  –  March 31, 2010

My mom put these on her bottom kitchen cabinets for her grandbabies and they are definitely toddler-proof, but mommy-proof as well. I have a hard time getting the magnet to match up to open the cabinet door. I believe the latch system works best.

We love these
By Amy M.  –  March 30, 2010

We used these in all our kitchen drawers and cupboards we wanted childproofed. They are easy to install and work great. There is a competitor to these locks and that other brand must be installed with screws. These are an adhesive install and they are much easier to install.
Make sure to buy at least two keys.

Fantastic Product
By J. WEST  –  March 30, 2010

We loved these magnetic locks. They were far easier and safer to use than the "clip" mechanisms that fit inside the cabinets. The only problem we had was when we misplaced the "key." Fortunately, most of our magnetic locks were in the kitchen, so we could place the keys on the range hood or high on the fridge. Our daughter figured these out at about 20 months old, but she could never reach the key - still keeping our household cleaners and medicines out of her reach. I am not sure we will ever install "the other cabinet locks" as long as these are readily available.

By S. Paddock  –  March 30, 2010

Doesn't sitck well
By S. Wagner  –  March 30, 2010

We bought these but found after a few months, they wouldn't stick anymore on the cabinets that we used daily. We tried a different type of tape and it didn't work well either. It worked fine on cabinets that weren't opened multiple times a day but not on ones that were.

Ok, but....
By A. Heffner  –  March 30, 2010

These locks worked well for the first few months, then the one under my kitchen sink broke. It simply stopped locking when it was closed. I think maybe it came loose or something. My husband is going to re-install it to see if he can get it to work. I love the idea of the magnetic system, just wish they were more durable. Oh, and buy two keys... in case you lose one!

By R. Hill  –  March 30, 2010

By J. Bisek  –  March 29, 2010

I LOVED these while they stayed attached to the cupboards. They started falling off after one year's use. Love that the "key" is a super strong magnet, so won't fall off the fridge and get lost. Worth the cost. Wish they would stay up longer or offer replacement adhesive strips.

By M. Blanchard  –  March 28, 2010

....Use these adhesive magnetic locks instead!! These locks work great on any furniture or cabinets that you don't want to drill permenant holes into. Awesome Idea Poor Execution
By K. Arsenault  –  March 28, 2010

Within 10 days of installing the old fashioned cupboard locks, my daughter had figured them out (smart little monster). So my husband and I decided to give these a try. Sadly they didnt work at all. Very Nice!
By Lindsay B.  –  March 27, 2010

A good friend of mine had these on a piece of furniture her husband had handcrafted that she didn't want to drill into. I've known her for years & see her pretty often--the locks always seemed to work fine. A bit pricey though--I can't imagine doing my whole house in these suckers, but if I had a special piece of furniture like my friend, I would definitely splurge! Oh, & they kept the key in a basket nearby on a high shelf so it wouldn't get lost--they never had any issues w/ it!

Tricky
By L. Stephens  –  March 27, 2010

We got these for our kitchen to keep my son out of the liquor cabinet & the cleaning product cabinet. We also put them on some of the other cabinets since we got the package that had a bunch in it.rnAfter only a week or so my son had figured out how to wiggle the door just so to get the locks to disengage. I had to do some more wiggling of my own to get the locks to stay in place so they engage properly. I know they are advertised as no screw...but I'd suggest screwing them in. The adhesive mount is a bit unpredictable in how it holds/keeps the lock in the right place.

Better than Tot Lock
By L. Dawson  –  March 26, 2010

I have used the Tot lock system. It works great, IF your cabinets are not very thick; they are also very involved in mounting to you cabinets. My sister has these magnetic cabinet locks and loves them. They are very stong, and work even through thick cabinets. Easier to install, and the locks can be "turned off" so you can acess the insides quickly. I definitelt recommend these over Tot Locks.

These were fairly easy to install. Took about an hour to do 6. No need for screws is definitely a plus! There is an option to use screws if you prefer. They have an unlock switch when you don't need your doors locked. Only issue for me is that, ideally, you should have an inch of woodwork to place the top adhesive. Some of our drawers only have 1/2 inch, but the locks still stuck anyway. Even without having them fully placed, they are amazingly strong. You absolutely must follow the diretions which state that the adhesive has to be placed 24 hours before using the locks. 6 months now and no problems. I keep the key on my fridge so I don't lose it. You can purchase replacement keys as well. :)

Quite incredible
By L. Keller  –  March 24, 2010

These little beauties are really different from any other child proof latch out there. It almost seems like magic the way they do *not* come undone unless unlocked.
The only downside is you really do have to keep up with the 'key!"

I confess that I am always misplacing the little key. It is a good solution if you can keep track of it!

Not for use everywhere
By A. Costandinidis  –  March 24, 2010

We only have this lock on the cabinet that contains our cleaning supplies and trash. It would be too much of a pain to install it on all the cabinets. We had trouble getting it to work at first, but we put a little dot right in the middle of the magnetic part. Now it's much easier and faster to get in.

not the greatest
By A. Uribe  –  March 24, 2010

Better than the other non magnet kind..but this one is kind of cheap. The other magnet ones are much more sturdier and they have bigger magnets.

Adhesive didn't last longer than week!
By A. Smith  –  March 24, 2010

Not worth the money. The adhesive gave out after a week of use.

Take the time to install
By C. Page  –  March 24, 2010

After trying these out on a few of our cabinets, I can safely say I'll be taking the time to screw in my next ones. They cost the same amount as the ones that hardware mount-but these suck. The adhesive stopped working within a few days. I'd much rather spend the same amount for something that still works after 6 years!

These are great! The only thing is that you have to keep track of the part to open the door (easy to lose, at least for me) but it works great and I love it!

Not so good
By M. Brooks  –  March 23, 2010

We didn't have luck with the adhesive either. It came off after a few days. Not good especially considering the parts are small enough for baby to choke on.

Very Convient, but not for HEAVY Use
By N. Hawkins  –  March 23, 2010

I have these at home and love them, but they were recently installed at my job where they see very heavy use (much more so that at home) and we have already had a few break.

I really like these but they do not work well on cheaper cabinets. They need to screw in to solid wood to work best!

Not for plastic
By Vanessa R.  –  March 22, 2010

Some of our cabinets are plastic and the adhesive just came right off the door with a hard pull. the screw on ones work better.

not universal
By Julie B.  –  March 22, 2010

These seemed like a great idea and I spent alot of money on them only to find out my cabinets are too thick. My cabinets are not anything special and were not special order or expensive so I didn't think we would have a problem.

Great product/expensive
By Linda Z.  –  March 22, 2010

This is a great product but kind of pricey if you have a lot of cabinets. Good for bathrooms!

Works great
By R. Dossmann  –  March 21, 2010

I gave this a 4 for 2 reasons. One, the locks worked great on the newer cabinets and drawers, but where we had the 20 yr old cabinets in the house the wood was too thick for the magnet to penetrate. Second, I didn't like the magnet. It is not encased and when I pulled it off the fridge one time the magnet stayed on the fridge. This is a choking hazard. What I did was buy a different magnet opener and used that with these locks. The locks themselves are a 5 while the magnet opener thing is a 1.

Wow!
By L. Stone  –  March 31, 2010

I have never seen magnet cabinet locks before and it looks like the perfect solution to some of the problems with our current ones. I can't wait to try them!
